5 New and Fun Workouts to try in 2016

Dancin’ and Drumming

This workout is what inspired me to write this article. I was home over the holidays and my mom brought me to this class on new years eve (which was her birthday, so of course I was excited to work out with her). You set yourself up with an exercise ball on top of a couple aerobic step risers and each person has a pair of drumsticks. During the workout we did various drumming movements (working the upper body), squats behind the ball (hello legs), reaching over to drum your neighbors ball (obliques) and intricate footwork around your ball. We did not stop moving for the entire hour. This class was great steady state cardio and it was so much fun! It also gets your brain working in order to pick up the choreography and various drumming rhythms. It felt great to be synchronized with the group. It was like we were all united together and when we pulled off all drumming at the same time, it looked really cool. This workout will for sure put a smile on your face. Its a great workout for all fitness levels. Im so happy I tried it (Thanks mom).

Trampoline Fitness

Tired of mindless running on a treadmill to get that cardio in? Then this workout is the perfect thing to try to kick things up a notch. Trampoline fitness classes are high-intensity cardio. You should be working in your anaerobic zone (80-90% of your max heart rate), which means you will burn a ton of calories and your body will be an efficient metabolic machine after you step off the tramp. This means that you will continue to burn calories post-workout, in order to replenish the oxygen stores in the muscles. Trampoline fitness is referred to as “rebounding”. It tones the hips, legs, butt and abdomen. Its a great core workout too because you are engaging those muscles the entire time to stabilize the body while you jump. Trampolines also prevent injuries to the joints, bones and ligaments due to the low-impact nature of the jump. So we have a workout that will strengthen our cardiovascular system, the muscles and its low-impact to protect those joints. Bonus- its also a ton of fun! You can feel like a care free kid again while you jump around and get a great workout in the meantime.

Buti Yoga

Buti Yoga is hottest new workout of 2016. It’s a little bit of yoga, dance and plyometrics. Buti Yoga combines traditional yoga poses with pulsing and gyrating moves that tone the entire body and get the heart pumping. It has much more of a cardio element then traditional yoga. You will look like you left a hot-yoga class when you are finished. Its a fantastic workout that includes cardio, strengthening and flexibility. It’s great for developing nice long lean muscles. Enter the class with an open mind and just let yourself go. Have fun with it and don’t take it too seriously. As long as your sweating, your doing it right! This is another workout that is bound to put a smile on your face and leave you feeling sexy, fierce and feminine.

Body Art Training

BodyArt was developed by Swiss fitness expert Robert Steinbacher. He combined his dance background and profession as a physiotherapist to create a dynamic and calisthenic workout. You use your own body weight to perform moves that integrate dance, tai-chi, yoga and functional training. This workout is great for developing body awareness. It also has a restorative aspect along with toning the entire body. If your a yogi, this workout is right up your alley. Body Art is available at equinox clubs, select gym and on DVD.
